Building in Creative Time

When is the last time you took an hour out of your week to think creatively? Or, suggested to an employee they take some time to think outside of the box?

Probably not for a while or maybe…never.

We get hung up on the execution and tactical strategy of our everyday work. There are deadlines to pursue and results to achieve. Not enough time in the workday to get everything done.

But, what happens when things go stale? You scramble to find new angles or insights to infuse your flat strategy.

I block one hour a week (at least) to shut everything down and just think creatively. I also encourage my teams to do the same thing.

Why? I want to encourage people to think differently about their work, the company, or maybe something in their personal life. I want them to ideate without the pressure of executing on an idea. Just think on ideas that roll around in your head.

If you’re not feeling it – don’t push it. Move the creative time block to another time when your mind is in a better state to block other things out.

Schedule today and encourage your teams to do the same thing!
